Awareness
PTA’s & School Outreach In order to combat the often unseen and unheard threat of sex trafficking, the general population must be aware that a threat exists. Therefore, a huge foundational piece of iCare’s mission is to raise awareness about the dangers facing our children and youth in this toxic culture. In order to get this message to as many parents as possible, iCare and partners have hosted training events featuring the Street Grace Training Academy. The Georgia Department of Education has contracted with Street Grace to send speakers to PTA groups throughout the state of Georgia and give approximately 15 minute talks to raise awareness about Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST). So far sixty-seven people have attended the academy with iCare. Out of this pool, trainers will be approved to host additional trainings locally. In the Fall of 2014, iCare will be offering interactive training sessions for students in 5th grade and above. The material is taken from real life scenarios and is developed in such a way as to help students identify red flags in the victim’s reasoning processes prior to being victimized. The goal is to teach students to be safe and advocate for their peers.
