CHILD SEX TRAFFICKING & EXPLOITATION

Child exploitation strikes at the foundations of our society. Child sex trafficking occurs when a person under 18 years of age is induced through force, fraud, or coercion to perform a sex act where there is a promise of the exchange of something of value to that child or another person(s).

Traffickers frequently target vulnerable youth with histories of abuse and low self esteem in order to exchange their bodies for cash. However this type of crime can happen to any child regardless of socio-economic background, ethnicity, or age. A trafficker uses psychological manipulation, false promises, lies, violence, threats, debt bondage, or other forms of control to keep victims from running away.

Victims of trafficking are forced or coerced into various forms of commercial sexual exploitation including prostitution, pornography, stripping or other commercial sex acts at various locations including brothels, cantinas, massage parlors, hotels, truck stops, and homes.
